CONNECT NHS public arts commission

In 2018 I was commissioned, alongside artists Helen Sear, Murray Ballard and Zoe Childerley, for the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust Connect 3Ts Hospital Redevelopment Public Art Programme, a partnership between Photoworks and Willis Newson to create a permanent collection of photographic artworks for each of the 36 new waiting rooms in the new hospital.

For this two year community-engaged project, I was given the theme of Brighton. Working with around 30 participants I explored local residents and hospital users connection with home, to create a body of work that evokes and celebrates the sense of place that home brings, to capture a feeling of familiarity, wellbeing and comfort. I wanted the lives of the local residents and hospital users to fill the hospital walls to create a warm and human atmosphere and for the community to feel part of the work.
